How to choose an AI chatbot company

Plenty of agencies in Lagos can connect a chat widget to a language model in a week. The difference shows up after launch: wrong answers, broken integrations and nobody reviewing conversations. Use the checks below to separate the two.

    1. 01

      RAG pipeline or scripted logic?

Ask whether answers come from a retrieval pipeline grounded in your documentation or from a pre-written decision tree. That decides whether the bot copes with the way real customers phrase questions.

    2. 02

      CRM and helpdesk integration depth

A bot that can't write back to your CRM leaves a human to process every lead it touches. Ask for specific integrations the agency has shipped.

    3. 03

      Hallucination testing before go-live

Every LLM-based bot will make things up if it isn't constrained. Ask about red-team scenarios, confidence thresholds and out-of-scope escalation.

    4. 04

      Verified outcomes, not testimonials

Ask for resolution-rate data from a live deployment: the share of enquiries resolved without a human, before and after.

    5. 05

      Post-launch tuning

Bots improve when someone reviews the logs. Ask about tuning cadence and whether it's in the contract or billed separately.

    6. 06

      Compliance and data handling

For businesses in Nigeria, data protection is the baseline. Regulated sectors should ask about data residency, on-premise models and data processing agreements.

Where chatbots pay off in Lagos

In Lagos, demand is strongest from fintech and payments, e-commerce and retail, telecommunications. The common thread is high volumes of repetitive questions that a well-grounded bot can answer instantly, with a clean handover to a person for anything unusual.

    Fintech and banking

Onboarding Q&A, dispute triage, KYC document guidance.

    E-commerce and retail

Order status, returns, product recommendations, cart recovery.

    Healthcare

Appointment scheduling, pre-consultation screening, insurance eligibility.

    SaaS and technology

Onboarding help, documentation search, tier-1 support.

    Legal and professional services

Case screening, document checklists, appointment booking.

    Logistics

Shipment status, exception notifications, booking confirmation.
